What is CAD Parser

CAD Parser is a lightweight plug-in based utility for AutoCAD®. It serves as the bridge between AutoCAD and your back-end business system, compiling information from CAD drawings and verifying it against your inventory for accuracy. This allows CAD Parser to build accurate, consistent, and validated BoM data which can be imported directly into your ERP/MRP system.

How it Works

  • 1. Open a Drawing & Launch the App

    You will open your AutoCAD® drawing first, and then click on the CAD Parser icon to launch the app. The following pop-up screen will be displayed.

  • 2. Import Bill of Materials from Drawing

    By clicking on the "Import BoM" button, CAD Parser will begin to search the drawing for part numbers, descriptions, quantities and additional information. Any results found will be shown on the pop-up screen.

  • 3. Verify Bill of Materials Data

    Once CAD Parser has searched the drawing, the items found will be displayed and color coded denoting their status. Items highlighted in Orange, denote that the item part number does not exist in your systems inventory database. Items highlighted in Yellow, denote that the description stored in your system's database for those items, shown under the "System Description" column, do not match the description found in the drawing, shown under the "Description" column. Items highlighted in White, denote there are no errors and the BoM data is accurate and matches inventory.

  • 4. Create or Edit Inventory Record

    If needed, the details for any item can modifed by clicking on the pencil icon, doing so brings up an inventory maintenance screen where you will be able to edit all details pertaining to that record. If the record does not exist, you will also be able to create that on the fly on this screen.

  • 5. Create Bill of Materials Master Item

    Once all BoM records have been verified and validated, you are ready to create the final validated BoM. You will click the "Create BoM" button on the upper right of the pop up screen to create the BoM Master Item.

  • 6. Create Final Validated BoM

    Once the Create Master Item has been properly filled in, you can then click the "Create BoM" button which writes the data to the bill of material table and imports it to your back-end system. You will see the following screen once that process has been completed. Click on the "Ok" button and you're done. You have now successfully created a valid bill of materials using CAD Parser.

Real-time Validation

Within CAD Parser you will have the ability to validate your AutoCAD® BoM data against your business's existing inventory data in real-time. If there are inconsistencies, you can easily and quickly create, edit, and update these items on both the AutoCAD drawing and your back-end business system.
